Just Talking About Writing . . .

. . .

I love talking about writing . . . But not many around me understand what I’m saying. But that’s not unusual for me, I was a computer geek before we were called geeks . . . I fit in somewhere between the slide rule guys and pocket protector clan . . . Back then we were respected almost as if we were engineers and we were. I wrote many of the systems that were in use for so long and now they have gone the way of the dinosaurs . . . Eighteen programming languages, fifteen operating systems and networks up the kazoo . . . My resume read like who’s who in IT. And then I just stopped and I have never regretted a moment after.

I started writing on a trout stream in Southern Wisconsin, waiting for the rain to stop. And I have not stopped yet. We don’t value writers. We don’t appreciate the written word. And yet how many times have you said the wrong thing on the phone or to someone before realizing what you said?

We used to write letters. That was our only way to know how great Abraham Lincoln was. It was the only way we knew that he was mad at a General of his army and wrote him telling him of his dissatisfaction and you know what? He never sent it . . . Maybe he forgot or maybe he was a great man? How many times have you wrote a heated email, pushed send and wished you didn’t? Letters, writing gives you the time to get it right.

My greatest successes have come at the end of a keyboard . . . My words are my greatest asset. I graduated from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois in 1993. And just three years earlier, I didn’t know how I was going to get through one class . . . I had a paper and I just couldn’t write. And then I decided to master the written word, make it mine, my tool of choice . . . And after I did, any time a paper was announced, I would laugh, because I knew it was an easy A. In three years, I wrote 1500 pages and graduated. And my career took off, all because of the written word. I knew how to sell my ideas. I was confident. And all this came after a twenty plus year career with no real victories to claim.

And today I’m a writer . . . Our lives are made up of defining moments. I know mine, do you? What events helped to shape who you are? What earmarks mark your victories or your failures? Everything is connected, everything depends on everything else. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

Dreamers IN Motion . . .

For Christmas I have decided to make a donation in my families name . . . I should explain. Each year I try to remember why we walk the path we do . . . Why others don’t have the same opportunities we have. And I choose one out of so many others . . . I have my normal everyday charities that we support . . . Make a wish, Children’s Hospital, MS, Habitat, Food Pantry, The Salvation Army and those homeless souls I meet along the way. And I always try to find another. Last year I donated to Heifer International for chickens, ducks, bees and rabbits. And this year I have an idea, but I’m not talking just yet . . . Closer to Christmas I will tell you which charity I’ve chosen . . . And I challenge you to make difference in someone’s life.

A portion of the royalties from Sleepless Nights is earmarked for MS . . . It’s the right thing to do. I love you Chris. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

Dreams Are Yours To Share: Live Your Dreams . . .

Today I ask the readers to vote on the 1st Dreamers IN Motion Contest . . . Seven individuals have ventured out of the shadows to show us that hope lives within each of us. The hope for tomorrow is alive . . .

Each person has made a difference in our world and for that I am very proud. Each has taken a small step for us and you should feel the chill. Their deeds may be small, but so was the first spark and now it cooks our food, warms our homes on a winter’s day. Each selfless act spawns a new beginning, a new tomorrow.

So vote . . . Each day through Monday. The winner will be notified on Tuesday. In case of a tie, I will reserve my vote for the last . . . Hopefully it won’t be needed. Voters are allowed to vote once a day . . . So vote as often as you want. And those in the running come on and vote for yourselves . . . What the hey . . . ?

The winner will receive a copy of my new poetry book, Sleepless Night . . . And have fun, that’s what this is for . . . Dreams are yours to share. Dan

The Message . . .

Sometimes the simplest of thoughts become our strongest motivators and become the basis for change . . . My name is Dan Hanosh, a writer of words. My goal is to help those that can’t share their dreams and capture their stories.

And Dreams is a site built by a poet/writer/activist . . . It's a site about taking action.

The Cause . . . Dreams IN Motion . . .

So here’s what I’m asking . . .
Find one thing that you can do to change the world. It can be as small as waving or making one new friend . . . But here’s the kicker. Whoever, whatever has to grow on its own, it has to be passed on . . .

Very often, actions are passed on all by themselves. Give it a try.

Possible Dreams . . .
+ Give a buck to a homeless person
+ Say Hi to a child or Wave
+ Start a neighborhood food drive
+ Have a neighborhood picnic
+ Start a neighborhood watch group
+ Volunteer for a service club
+ Help on an habitat home
+ Have a neighborhood dance
+ or just be a friend . . .

Share the love, that's Human kindness. And whatever you do, let me know . . . Leave a comment at any of my blogs and I’ll put you on a link list on Dreams are yours to share . . .

Oh and keep it going . . . Write about your project on your blog and keep the Dream, don’t let Our Dreams IN Motion die

We need a gun toting kind of a man . . .

. . .

Who do you go to when you have a problem? Who rides in on the twilight, saving the day? John Wayne died, did anyone take his place? Andy Griffith is busy with life . . .

Where have we gone? I’m lost . . . In a world of so many how could we feel so alone?

I was asked to go to a spiritual discussion group and I joined and now I’m Pending, pending approval . . . What is that? Are we all afraid of words? Afraid things won’t go as we think they should? As kids when we had disagreements we took the ball and went home.

Ok enough of the wallowing, here’s the way it is . . . All the problems around us, around the world are our own faults. That’s right. When’s the last time you told those around you specifically what you meant? No lies, no deception, no mis-informational BS . . . Shoot I’m still trying to figure out certain individuals.

Who am I to say that . . . I am a writer that’s tired of the way we’re heading, tired that we’re not looking out for the kids and the precious things we’ve been given. I know the risk, I know . . . Still my message is my Cause and it’s worth everything. Do you live life with a cause? Something that’s so big that you don’t mind the little setbacks?

Why did they destroy Michael Vick? Why did Don Imus have to go? What is the hate all about? I don’t have any of that . . . I must be blessed. Why did THE DOG’s words become so evil?

I grew up on the playground. DOG crew up in prison . . . The playground is a kind of prison for kids. We came from all walks of life. Thieves, criminals, blacks, whites, pimps, perverts . . . Get the picture. It was a mixed family of sorts and the words were colorful . . . I remember having specific words and picking myself up off the court. That was our law and afterwards we were good friends . . . The “N-word” flew around as though it were a thing of beauty. Today we’re so afraid . . . Afraid of what? That word has always been associated with scum . . . Not the way we think of it today . . . But what power we’ve given a word, why?

Hate destroys and it unites people in a cause . . . Do you believe in Evil vs Good? Who’s going to win?

Did I say I’m white and those thieves, criminals, blacks, whites, pimps and perverts were my friends at time when I needed to break away from the hate. And let me say, the best players never play on a team . . . Why?

We need a gun slinger . . .

Dreams IN Motion . . . A pony tail of love

Last year was so hard. My son was diagnosed with the Big-C in April. And the summer was endlessly slow, with Chemo Weekend Holidays at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee and five weeks of daily doses of radiation at Froedtert Hospital. When my dearest one’s hair, began to fall from his head . . . We shaved our heads too, my boys and me.

And do you know, so many thought I was battling CANCER. Then in September my boy went under the knife . . . Eight hours later, he was short four ribs, half a shoulder and several muscles were relocated . . . My boy is a fighter. The doctors, surgeons all five of them, couldn’t believe how quickly he rebounded . . . A year later and my boy is CANCER-FREE.

And do you know something, when you get CANCER friends stop being friends. They simply stop coming . . . But some become family . . . You see I am a finder of lost sheep, I pickup strays that have lost their way. And I give them love and guidance. Through my son’s ordeal, my family was four and today we our five strong . . . My third son is my oldest boy’s friend and I love him as my own. He is included in all family decisions, for he was there when we needed someone. Thank you my friend, my son.

I have been growing my hair since the surgery . . . I will donate it to Locks of Love, once again. No child should feel the cruel hate, other kids share unknowingly. It’s such a small thing, but those are the things that make the difference . . .

Dreamers share your deeds and spread the seed . . . Hope is all around us. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

The Fire Continues . . .

. . .

For ever I was taught that you couldn’t follow your Dreams and have a family, a home, a job, a normal life. It doesn’t have to be that way . . .

You can Dream again, you can wake up every day excited to be alive . . . I do. My Dreams were unknowingly put on ice so long ago and then I woke up . . . Today I live everyday as though it is my last. I live everyday knowing I’m doing what I truly love . . . I’m writer. How cool is that? Six years ago I couldn’t carry a thought and now I have written over a hundred thousand words in my novel . . .

I write with passion of the things I love, the things that need to be said. My novel sits here, unfinished . . . Because there’s something more pressing that needs to be done. We need to find ourselves again . . . We need to be great again . . . To share again without fear, just love. My novel is close. I work on it every day, from 12 midnight to three or four in the morning. And the rest of the time, I blog . . . I blog for my message . . . And I am excited, I feel it in the air, it’s like a cool breeze on a hot sultry day. The chill that built this country is alive. It’s in every unselfish thing we do . . . Feel love, I do.

Dreams IN Motion . . .
Today I have another two to add to our list. Another two Dreamers IN Motion . . . The fire is starting. Can you feel it? It’s contagious and everyday I love looking at my emails and wondering if there will be another brave soul willing to share their deeds with us . . .

Today aksnlp3r has emailed me . . .
I dream a lot, and sometimes wonder if acting out my passionate goals would inspire others or just get a shrug-off.

I do give a buck or 2 to the needy, i give away every unessential clothing item as well, even my *expensive* Levi's. I was once living in less than average conditions so I know how it feels to the people who go ignored, without that push of humanity that’s needed. Everyone should do something good everyday and forget selfish desires!

I will be following your blog from now on! Keep up the noteworthy, heart-filled posts!

Also Moonshadow has felt the stirrings . . .

Dan, I and my family do our best to be good neighbors, no matter whose neighborhood we're in. Just the other night we woke a man to let him know some horses were in the road. Fortunately they turned out to be his. My husband often sends donations to places in need. Every time I turn around my son is helping SOMEONE out.

Moonshadow has graciously posted her deed on her blog . . . Share the love and read of the brave deed. Yes, brave deed . . . So many times, we fail to act because we fear the unknown, ridicule or fear itself. Moonshadow acted on a dark Kansas night . . . It gets very dark in Kansas. I lived there once, long ago in cowtown.

Each and every Dream IN Motion is just as important as all others . . . It’s in the act of kindness toward others that make us great!

Soon I will announce a contest . . .
I’m not sure of the details yet. But I think the prize will be a copy of my latest poetry book, Sleepless Nights. I’m thinking somehow that you need to be the Judges. That you need to vote for the Dreamer IN Motion of the month, not me . . . So the details are yet a little sketchy, but I want you to know, there coming. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

Celebrating Humankind . . . One Day At A Time

Dreams are for sharing . . . I love visiting my friend’s blogs on the internet. They come from all over the world. I love the strange and odd languages and I always try to read them, to learn. I love learning about different cultures, those cultures from different countries, far off lands. And one day I want to walk those lands.

And everyday I add anywhere between 75 and 100 friends. My friends come from all walks of life . . . I’m a writer, I don’t judge, I do my best to understand. Long ago I realized everyone is just trying to make their own way in situations most of us will never understand or feel.

Today many seem to be trying to turn the clock back to the 60’s. The 60’s weren’t anything great. We had to overcome so many prejudices. I hate that word, to pre judge, to have an opinion with out know the truth. This week I’ll be a half a century old . . . Wow for a kid who though he’d never reach nineteen, I’ve come so far. And ya know, I’ve changed along the way. I’m nothing like that boy . . . People change. And yet, I still feel like I’m seventeen, I’m still excited about possibilities, such as World Peace.

I don’t write these words to preach . . . That’s not me. I write these words so some of us will take a moment feel, joy, to the pain . . . Words sting, actions hurt.

Pro lifers believe a law will fix the problem. It won’t. Homosexuals believe a law will answer their situation. Dems and Reps have taken sides on the Illegal Emigrant thing . . . A Law won’t fix either . . . You see only Love is the answer . . .

I grew up on the playground of the 60’s and 70’s. It was a time of race riots and marches. There were shooting and fear . . . But that had nothing to do with me. And on the blacktop we had our own laws and none of us saw black and white . . . In a world of tattoos, piercing and strange colored hair, we have so many ways to find difference with humankind . . . And with all those we are all very much the same.

Dreamers IN Motion . . .

Today I received a comment from a reader . . . I will paraphrase, please forgive me . . . “I see it everyday out here on the road. People are all in such a rush and they are so very, very mean and nasty to each other.”

“We haven’t been to any areas yet that have had many homeless people but if I stay out long enough we surely will. And we always give food and water . . . “

Thank you, Shinade for being you . . . For seeing what others fail to see, for making a difference. Please share the Dream, share the love and visit Shinade and czecho our Dreamers IN Motion . . .

Why Do Bloggers Quit . . .

?

Happy Halloween . . . Be extra careful driving . . .

Why do bloggers quit? I’m not sure exactly . . . Though maybe because it’s a lot of work and there’s very little rewards. But truthfully isn’t that writing . . . ?

I’ve come to believe that bloggers are pretty much for themselves, at least that’s what it seems. But that’s not entirely true. Some how we have this notion that readers will come because they want to read, to see what we’ve done . . . Not very realistic my friends.

You see Bloggers want something in return . . . We’re all in search of traffic. Most just a click and a quick perusing of our sites for numbers is what drives us. Numbers keep us writing each day . . . So why not keep visiting sites, not just profiles? Sometimes I just don’t understand . . .

My Cause . . .
Yesterday I started a cause of a sort . . . I’m not interested in money, that’s not what drives me. I’m interested in making a difference, starting something or just being a part of something so big and bold. I’m tire of the War, tired of the killing, tired of the hate . . . I want REAL CHANGE . . . And yesterday I wrote a piece called, Careful Dreams IN Motion . . . It was my call to all bloggers to take action, one small step.

Today I am please to announce our first Dreamer IN Motion . . . czecho

His blogs are:
Good to be Green
Political Rogue – Unconventional Politics
Soccer Overload

He cares and he belongs to a group, who cares . . . Rather than have a Christmas Party, they decided to help several needy families so they could have a Christmas . . .

Show him some LOVE, go to his sites and make him your friend. He is one of us, a Dreamer IN Motion. Thanks George. I’ll add your sites to my link list . . . Dreams IN Motion.

Dreams IN Motion . . .

So here’s what I’m asking . . . Find one thing that you can do to change the world. It can be a small thing as waving or making one new friend . . . But here’s the kicker. Whoever, whatever has to grow, pass it on.

ideas . . .

And let me know what you decide . . . Leave a comment a link to your blog and I’ll put you on a link list on Dreams are yours to share . . . Oh and write keep writing about your project on your blog. Let us know so Our Dreams IN Motion won’t die . . . Dreams are yours to share.

Careful Dreams IN Motion

. . .

How does it all fit together? Precisely . . . Like two gears tightly machined. Each cog must ring true. Each cog on the gear fits tightly with its appropriate spot on an opposite gear. The first gear is us, our values, beliefs, loves and dreams and the other, is everyone else and the world . . .

Do we fit with everyone else’s beliefs, loves and dreams or are we simply misaligned?

If we spend all our time working, our gear becomes unbalanced. It starts to wobble and break. If we let anything over take all the others everything starts in a topsy-turvy spin . . .

And if the outside world becomes out of whack, again we spin out of control . . . Something has to be done, done to regain control.

What the hell am I talking about? Our values aren’t aligning with our leaders and they’re values aren’t in alignment with the world . . . They don’t know what to think until someone tells them. And today we are not telling them in enough numbers . . . BRING EM HOME

So what does this have to do with Dreams? When the bombs fly, people die and all you’re life’s work will be for nothing . . . Retirement? Forget it. Sacrifices will have to be made and friend that’s us.

And I had a Dream . . . We all had a Dream, once. So I’ll say those words I despise so much . . . Here it goes . . . What can I do, I’m only one person?

May I choke and die for typing those pathetic apathetic words . . .

I remember studying WWII in Junior High. I remember asking why didn’t the German people stand up to Hitler’s hit squads? No one had any reasons that made sense. And now, I know . . . I never ever thought I would see it, but I did and I’m ashamed . . . But the time is right to be great again. It only takes a few to start us on the path . . .

Now I ask . . . What can you do? How can you make a change to right us with the outside world?

There’s so much we can do. Write letters to Congress, the White House, march, write opinions in local newspapers. And yet it seems to go much deeper . . . Any one remember Pay-It-Forward?

How can you change the world? What would make a difference?
I don’t know . . .

Long ago, I started waving to my neighborhood and now everyone waves to everyone. And somehow we all seem closer. And we are. When I walk the neighborhood, people stop to talk to me. They never did before. And now I am shoveling snow for two elder gents up the road . . . A favor here and there and just maybe the world will smile again.

Dreams IN Motion . . .

So here’s what I’m asking . . . Find one thing that you can do to change the world. It can be a small thing as waving or making one new friend . . . But here’s the kicker. Whoever, whatever has to grow, has to be passed on.

ideas . . .
a neighborhood food drive
a neighborhood picnic
start a neighborhood watch group
volunteer for a service club
a neighborhood dance
or just be a friend . . .

And let me know what you decide . . . Leave a comment a link to your blog and I’ll put you on a link list on Dreams are yours to share . . . Oh and write keep writing about your project on your blog. Let us know so Our Dreams IN Motion won’t die . . . Dreams are yours to share.
