And They Fought For Us . . .
And They Fought For Us . . .
Yesterday I ran across a site that had a list of the most prominent people in the fight for Civil Rights . . . Well maybe not the best way to say it, but still it rings true. Here’s the list.Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, The Dalai Lama, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jane Addams, Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, Patsy Mink, Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Marian Wright Edelman, Russell Means, Cesar Chavez, Malcolm X, Elie Wiesel, Mother Teresa, Amartya Sen, Ralph Nader, Jesse Jackson, Noam Chomsky, Ronald Takaki, Harvey Milk, Audre Lorde, Eleanor Roosevelt, Frances Fox Piven, Howard Zinn, John Muir, Rachel Carson, Julia Butterfly Hill
Each one on this list took a stand for a belief or a way of life. Each one gave up something of themselves . . . Many died for their belief, some were imprisoned and some gave in different ways . . . They all believed in a greater tomorrow, in the greater good . . .
Do you, do I, does anyone? They had a dream . . . That one day all men will be equal . . . All causes equal in the eyes of us all. There will always be causes. There will always be wrongs that need righting. And their will always be leaders, leading us to victory . . . The time is right for a new leader to emerge and they’ll not ride the easy wave, but fight their way until we notice that they come to serve us . . . Dreams are yours to share.
