Two Years Ago, I Started On A Journey . . .

. . .

Two years ago, I started on a journey. I started writing my second poetry book, “Sleepless Nights”. It is a culmination of everything I hold dear, everything I love. It started with words, late nights and tired days.
And in its midst, I had to stop for a battle of sorts, no it was a war . . . The kind no parent wants to have, no parent should have, although I think it brought about my best poetical work, “I Should Have Screamed”. And in the end, it finished as a dedication of sorts to a very good friend, my nephew Chris Appel.

And one Saturday, I had a chance to give him a copy of our book. A moment I will remember as long as I breath.

Captured a shared moment of my dream with my little buddy, Chris, our book, “Sleepless Nights”, my brainchild and ours to share.

Two years of work, poetry about life, loves and hardships. And I got the chance to share a few moments and write with my little friend.

For me “Sleepless Nights” gave me a chance to write with my little buddy, Chris and to share some very special moments, from a very special individual. At the age of 17, my little buddy was battling MS. Today he can’t walk without someone’s help . . . In all the years that I’ve known him, I have never seen anyone with such a great outlook on life. He is my role model, my hero . . . The reason I write.

“Sleepless Nights” gave me a chance to bring together everything I love. From the cover, a picture of a place I go when I need to be alone. To the back cover, a picture of my little buddy and me, sharing a moment discussing what we’ll write next, available in Hardback and soft cover for a memento or for pure enjoyment.

“Sleepless nights”, is a continuation of my first book, “The World Outside My Window”. It pierces deeper into my heart, my soul releasing my most intimate thoughts. During the writing I found many truths, about myself, about friends and oh yes family. Throughout life we gain burdens, baggage and sins. One day they will rise and then we’ll have to deal with them. Rest assured the journey leads us to the happiness that we seek, to dream once again.

I am a self published poet. I will always be a self published poet . . . A poet with a message. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

How about being a part of something bigger

?

. . .

Dreams has been awarded the Bloggers With Integrity Award.

Thank you, Nom de plume The Poetress, Binding Ink III. I will display it proudly as a symbol to live and die by.

In a world that has all but lost its credibility this award shines above as if it came from the heavens . . . Integrity is a not just a word to me, it’s a guiding force, rules to live my life by. And that means so much, to stand strong for your beliefs, your ideals, adherence to a code . . .

I am not at all sure Dreams is deserving of this award. There are so many others that are more deserving.

So long ago I thought integrity was something all people sought. Now I see it as one of the lost wonders of the world, the lost traits of a civilization; honesty, compassion, loyalty, bravery, conviction, integrity, generosity. . . Today one phrase seems to stand out among us all, success at any cost.

I wonder as we sink into that quagmire will we have lost so much that when we actually achieve victory it will seem meaningless. Any way Poetress thank you from the bottom of my heart. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

How about being part of something great?
How about being a blogger with a cause, a Dream? Bloggers can make a difference. It’s easy to start and so hard to keep going day after day. But it’s worth it . . .

Norman Rockwell painted pictures of places that didn’t exist, so we would long for them, even try to find them . . . And writers wrote of the Utopian Dream, Xanadu, and Genghis Con’s summer pleasure palace. Lost Horizons, eternal youth as long as you stayed there . . . And then there’s The Garden of Eden.

Is there such a place? No . . . It’s not a place . . . It’s a state of mind, one of peace, happiness, friendship and everything good. So how do we get there? That’s the easy part, just start walking, taking small steps, waving, smiling and making our way to becoming a better person tomorrow than any of us our today. Watch and see.

Let me ask you, do you blog only for money? And after two weeks why are you still blogging? After a year? There’s probably no reason to go on unless you blog for another reason . . . Only long hours, hard work and time will get you what you seek. And it will be so tough, everything is. Ever wonder why? It’s because if it were easy, no one would appreciate their successes.

Would you like a link on Dreams are yours to share? Tell me something I didn’t know where you made a difference in someone’s life.

Our Friend Jim and the Mrs.

Sometimes I could just scream
we preach the golden rule
we think everyone knows of such
a thing and yet we just can’t see
their pain . . .

sometimes we can’t see past
our slant sloped noses and then
and then something happens something so
big so wonderful it opens each of our
hearts . . .

a friend we know takes in a
homeless stranger he takes her
into his heart he gives her
shelter in a time of need
she’s sick with no one

and our friend opens his home
his heart . . . his wife drives
her to the pantry and she
confesses ‘I’ve got just six
months’ . . .

and nothing seems as important
church bells are ringing
. . . feel the chill we’ve
gained another two . . . our friend
Jim and the Mrs.

Yesterday Was Amazing . . .

. . .

First let me thank all the Veterans for the sacrifices. It always important to be thankful to those men and women . . . For without them we would not be here . . .

Yesterday, I think I spent more minutes on the phone than I had in the rest of the year combined. Being my Birthday, turning the big 5 0 and it was so nice to hear from family, friends and especially my new friends on the internet . . . To me, that’s as good as an At A Boy . . . You know, that pat on the back from someone that you respect. Thanks Cooper, thanks everyone, for a moment . . .

And that’s all it takes to change the world, a moment, a nod, a smile, a helping hand. We are all standing alone and yet we stand side by side with our brothers . . . I haven’t started any new and exciting projects yet, only the ones that I have been doing for awhile now . . .

+Locks of Love, growing my hair
+Organ Donor- that orange dot on my driver’s license. +Waving to everyone and talking to as many as I can.
+My Christmas Story- I send out a Christmas Story at Christmas rather than a card.
+I write letters to anyone that will write back . . . Funny only one writes back these days, my little buddy Chris, Co-Author of Sleepless Nights. Someday I am going to write that tear jerker . . . Why don’t people write letters? Letters are sometimes all that left after we lay down and I get so many excuses . . . All dealing with time.

Do you send out Christmas Cards? Why not? It’s a little thing the can help ignite the season, give meaning to an over commercialized time. I used to hate Christmas until I found out why? You won’t believe what it was . . . My little family had no traditions of our own. We were doing everything that my in-laws wanted and nothing we wanted to do. And now each year we go see A Christmas Carol together at the Milwaukee Rep. That’s all it took. One day a year, all of my little family gets dressed up, go out to eat and watch a play. And each year they have a donation for one of their charities and I always donate . . . And today I love Christmas again. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without those words, “God Bless Us, Every One.”

And I never leave the theater without tears streaming down my cheeks. Do you know a tiny Tim? I do . . .

Do you see where I’m going with this . . . ? Little things, make the biggest difference in our lives. It can be the baggage we carry or the reason we live. I’ve always had a kind of 6th sense, let’s just say I knew things before they happened . . . Anyway one day I was hurrying to the local community college for class. And I saw a friend that had enlisted in the Air Force . . . Something told me to stop, but I was in a hurry and didn’t. Two weeks later he was dead . . . I have to live with that the rest of my life. Now, I always stop . . .

The other day, our friend Moonshaddow went out of her way to help someone, by knocking on a strange house in the night in order to let someone know their horses were out wandering on the highway . . . But let me tell you a story about a friend and then you might just understand how big a thing it was . . . When I was a boy, a friend, his brother and his father were coming home from bowling on a late Friday night, on a road not far from my house. A car had driven into a ditch. The friend’s father stopped the car, got into the other car to help. Taking the driver’s vitals and trying to wake him up, when the car was rear ended by another car . . . My friend’s father died instantly.

Moonshaddow be careful out there, but keep on being a Dreamer IN Motion.

Half a Century in the Making . . .

First, please play the Dream Catcher Song at the top, while you read . . . Calling All Angels is a favorite of mine, as is Lenny Kravitz. Enjoy . . .

Today I turn 50 . . . That’s right, The BIG 5 0.

I don’t feel old . . . Inside I just never grew up. I still do the same things, those things I did when I was seventeen. I still act the same, at least that’s what I tell my self.

I used to be so serious, not any more. Now every day is a treat, every day I sing a song. For my birthday, my wife got me a feel good button. You know the easy button, kind of looks like that only when you push it . . . James Brown does his Rendition of my Feeling of life and I always sing along . . .

I feel good . . . doodle, doodle, doodle-do.
I knew that I would, now . . . doodle, doodle, doodle-do.
I feel good . . . doodle, doodle, doodle-do.
I knew that I would, now . . . doodle, doodle, doodle-do.
So good . . . doot, doot.
so good . . . doot, doot . . . I got you woooooooooooo.

And so the other night as I said once before . . .

I was getting ready to do my daily five mile walk. I heard my wife come in the front door.
“Hey, I’m going for a walk . . . ,“ I shouted out to her.
“You are, are you?”
That’s when I looked up in disbelief . . . My oldest son was standing there like he just made a cake or something . . . You see he lives in Tucson, AZ., 2500 miles away. He had just flown in for my birthday.

And that’s when I stammered some unrecognizable words. For a moment, I had lost all ability to speak, at least coherently . . . Oh and that night I didn’t go for my walk . . . Dreams, do come true.

50 Years in the making and you know, it’s the little things that matter the most. An occasional good cigar, a good book, spending time with those you love and spending time with my internet friends . . . And of course, I still write each day no matter what . . . That’s what writer’s do.

And that’s what I do, from 12:00 am to 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. That’s when I find the time to work on my novel, Sins of a Father . . . And very soon, it will be finished. And another Dream will come to fruition. You see, Dreams do come true.

Dreams IN Motion . . .

Need a good cry? Watch the video feed of Pay-it-forward on the side . . . Want a Link? – Make a difference, help The Cause. Comment them to me or shout out and I’ll share with the world . . . I haven’t Forgot, have you? What have you done for another person today? What have you done to make a difference?

Each and every day I try to make those I come in contact with, smile . . . Sometimes I act pretty silly. But I always get a smile, it may be a labored one, but still the person had a small upturn in the corners of their mouth. That’s what counts . . . A state change.

Many years ago I went to my Grandmother’s funeral. All my life, I thought of her as being poor. But that day, for the first time I knew she lived a rich life. One most of us would never have the good fortune to understand. You see this old lady had touched everyone in that church some way . . . She had touched them in such a way that they had found it necessary to come and say their Goodbyes . . . The church could hold four hundred people and the doors were overflowing into the street. And with tears running down my cheeks I knew this small lady had lived a good life, a life of no regrets . . . Dreams are yours to share. Dan

We need a gun toting kind of a man . . .

. . .

Who do you go to when you have a problem? Who rides in on the twilight, saving the day? John Wayne died, did anyone take his place? Andy Griffith is busy with life . . .

Where have we gone? I’m lost . . . In a world of so many how could we feel so alone?

I was asked to go to a spiritual discussion group and I joined and now I’m Pending, pending approval . . . What is that? Are we all afraid of words? Afraid things won’t go as we think they should? As kids when we had disagreements we took the ball and went home.

Ok enough of the wallowing, here’s the way it is . . . All the problems around us, around the world are our own faults. That’s right. When’s the last time you told those around you specifically what you meant? No lies, no deception, no mis-informational BS . . . Shoot I’m still trying to figure out certain individuals.

Who am I to say that . . . I am a writer that’s tired of the way we’re heading, tired that we’re not looking out for the kids and the precious things we’ve been given. I know the risk, I know . . . Still my message is my Cause and it’s worth everything. Do you live life with a cause? Something that’s so big that you don’t mind the little setbacks?

Why did they destroy Michael Vick? Why did Don Imus have to go? What is the hate all about? I don’t have any of that . . . I must be blessed. Why did THE DOG’s words become so evil?

I grew up on the playground. DOG crew up in prison . . . The playground is a kind of prison for kids. We came from all walks of life. Thieves, criminals, blacks, whites, pimps, perverts . . . Get the picture. It was a mixed family of sorts and the words were colorful . . . I remember having specific words and picking myself up off the court. That was our law and afterwards we were good friends . . . The “N-word” flew around as though it were a thing of beauty. Today we’re so afraid . . . Afraid of what? That word has always been associated with scum . . . Not the way we think of it today . . . But what power we’ve given a word, why?

Hate destroys and it unites people in a cause . . . Do you believe in Evil vs Good? Who’s going to win?

Did I say I’m white and those thieves, criminals, blacks, whites, pimps and perverts were my friends at time when I needed to break away from the hate. And let me say, the best players never play on a team . . . Why?

We need a gun slinger . . .

Dreams IN Motion . . . A pony tail of love

Last year was so hard. My son was diagnosed with the Big-C in April. And the summer was endlessly slow, with Chemo Weekend Holidays at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee and five weeks of daily doses of radiation at Froedtert Hospital. When my dearest one’s hair, began to fall from his head . . . We shaved our heads too, my boys and me.

And do you know, so many thought I was battling CANCER. Then in September my boy went under the knife . . . Eight hours later, he was short four ribs, half a shoulder and several muscles were relocated . . . My boy is a fighter. The doctors, surgeons all five of them, couldn’t believe how quickly he rebounded . . . A year later and my boy is CANCER-FREE.

And do you know something, when you get CANCER friends stop being friends. They simply stop coming . . . But some become family . . . You see I am a finder of lost sheep, I pickup strays that have lost their way. And I give them love and guidance. Through my son’s ordeal, my family was four and today we our five strong . . . My third son is my oldest boy’s friend and I love him as my own. He is included in all family decisions, for he was there when we needed someone. Thank you my friend, my son.

I have been growing my hair since the surgery . . . I will donate it to Locks of Love, once again. No child should feel the cruel hate, other kids share unknowingly. It’s such a small thing, but those are the things that make the difference . . .

Dreamers share your deeds and spread the seed . . . Hope is all around us. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

The Fire Continues . . .

. . .

For ever I was taught that you couldn’t follow your Dreams and have a family, a home, a job, a normal life. It doesn’t have to be that way . . .

You can Dream again, you can wake up every day excited to be alive . . . I do. My Dreams were unknowingly put on ice so long ago and then I woke up . . . Today I live everyday as though it is my last. I live everyday knowing I’m doing what I truly love . . . I’m writer. How cool is that? Six years ago I couldn’t carry a thought and now I have written over a hundred thousand words in my novel . . .

I write with passion of the things I love, the things that need to be said. My novel sits here, unfinished . . . Because there’s something more pressing that needs to be done. We need to find ourselves again . . . We need to be great again . . . To share again without fear, just love. My novel is close. I work on it every day, from 12 midnight to three or four in the morning. And the rest of the time, I blog . . . I blog for my message . . . And I am excited, I feel it in the air, it’s like a cool breeze on a hot sultry day. The chill that built this country is alive. It’s in every unselfish thing we do . . . Feel love, I do.

Dreams IN Motion . . .
Today I have another two to add to our list. Another two Dreamers IN Motion . . . The fire is starting. Can you feel it? It’s contagious and everyday I love looking at my emails and wondering if there will be another brave soul willing to share their deeds with us . . .

Today aksnlp3r has emailed me . . .
I dream a lot, and sometimes wonder if acting out my passionate goals would inspire others or just get a shrug-off.

I do give a buck or 2 to the needy, i give away every unessential clothing item as well, even my *expensive* Levi's. I was once living in less than average conditions so I know how it feels to the people who go ignored, without that push of humanity that’s needed. Everyone should do something good everyday and forget selfish desires!

I will be following your blog from now on! Keep up the noteworthy, heart-filled posts!

Also Moonshadow has felt the stirrings . . .

Dan, I and my family do our best to be good neighbors, no matter whose neighborhood we're in. Just the other night we woke a man to let him know some horses were in the road. Fortunately they turned out to be his. My husband often sends donations to places in need. Every time I turn around my son is helping SOMEONE out.

Moonshadow has graciously posted her deed on her blog . . . Share the love and read of the brave deed. Yes, brave deed . . . So many times, we fail to act because we fear the unknown, ridicule or fear itself. Moonshadow acted on a dark Kansas night . . . It gets very dark in Kansas. I lived there once, long ago in cowtown.

Each and every Dream IN Motion is just as important as all others . . . It’s in the act of kindness toward others that make us great!

Soon I will announce a contest . . .
I’m not sure of the details yet. But I think the prize will be a copy of my latest poetry book, Sleepless Nights. I’m thinking somehow that you need to be the Judges. That you need to vote for the Dreamer IN Motion of the month, not me . . . So the details are yet a little sketchy, but I want you to know, there coming. Dreams are yours to share. Dan

Dreamers IN Motion . . .

The Cause . . . Dreams IN Motion . . .

So here’s what I’m asking . . . Find one thing that you can do to change the world. It can be a small thing as waving or making one new friend . . . But here’s the kicker. Whoever, whatever has to grow, pass it on . . . Any Action very often passes itself on all by itself. Give it a try.

Possible Dreams . . .
give a buck to a homeless person
say hi to a child or wave
start a neighborhood food drive
have a neighborhood picnic
start a neighborhood watch group
volunteer for a service club
build a habitat home
have a neighborhood dance
or just be a friend . . . Share the love with Human kindness.

Whatever you do, let me know . . . Leave a comment at any of my blogs and I’ll put you on a link list on Dreams are yours to share . . . Oh and keep it going . . . Write about your project on your blog and keep the Dream, don’t let Our Dreams IN Motion die . . . Dreams are yours to share.

This may sound very strange . . .

. . . Are you afraid to die?

What does this have to do with dreams? The truth . . . That’s what we seek. When I was seventeen, I rolled my car. The way I tell it, I talked to the lord . . . And it changed my life forever.

And I’ve been fortunate to live on, but truthfully, I’m ready anytime . . . I know this life is only the batters box for the real one. What’s ironic is all religions seem to come from the same origins, why?

Why does the Torah, the Curran and the Bible have chapters that are the same? Why is the message pretty much the same? Throw in the rest and you’ll see that all of them tries to help us be better human beings. Even atheists preach about saving the human race, why? Because we’re all in this thing together and what makes us difference is also what makes us the same . . .

Now are you afraid to die? Do you hang on too tightly? Are you so afraid that you are too afraid to live? Are you hidden away inside, never to see the light of day, never to feel anymore . . . ?

Every thought we have, we have a choice on how we want to react. And I choose to ask myself, how would I want to be treated if I had walked that path? And then I decide my sides, my battles . . . We’re all in this thing call life, together. It’s time we realize it. Dreams are yours to share.

Thanks Giving will be here soon . . .

What are you thankful for . . . ? I am thankful for the sky, the blue and the white clouds and the heat of the sun. I am thankful for my son . . . Today he walks, CANCER-FREE. I am thankful for the AIR I breathe. I am thankful that I’m able to walk and wave to all that I pass each day. I am thankful for every chance I have to smile and the moments I have to write.

Merely a smile, a wave or saying Hi, can change a life forever . . . Being a friend may save someone’s life. Can you be a friend to a stranger? Dreams are yours to share.

I'm Confused . . .

. . .

This weekend we celebrated Guy Fawkes day . . . It’s an English thing. Every year we have a bonfire and burn a dummy in effigy. Supposedly Guy Fawkes tried to blowup the house of Parliament . . . A bad thing? . . . Hmmm.

Anyway my little buddy, Chris was there, he the co-author of my book Sleepless Nights. Also he is my nephew and friend. Anyway my brother-in-law came up to me and thanked me for being his friend . . . I’m not sure what to make of it. Let me explain, my little buddy has MS . . . But still why does he feely he needs to thank me, am I missing something?

Sure I live two hours away and come down once a month, so what. And we write letters and stories. I am the lucky one to have such a friend that doesn’t expect anything, just enjoys the time we spend together. To be truthful, he is my motivation, the reason I write . . . He doesn’t judge . . . Such a rare quality. Dreams are yours to share.

Hey. I got to stop by your blog. Wow. thanks for the inspiration and thanks for adding me and leading me there. I do have a dream to follow. I want to help my sister and expose her rare kidney condition to the world. They do not have a cure. And it is very painful. but I've no idea how to start.
* * * Maybe someone one can help rioholly

Love your posts... I have been learning a lot this summer about people... Helping clean up the town after the tornado, getting involved in our GreenTown committee... I feel like I am finally making a difference!

Thank you, rioholly and Amethyst for being you . . . For seeing what others fail to see, for making a difference. Please share the Dream, share the love and visit all our Dreamers IN Motion . . .
