Always Searching . . .

. . .

I’m a writer always looking for a story. Always searching for hope of tomorrow’s yet to come. Today I found it in of all places, CNN . . .

I live a strange and wild schedule in my writing life. I usually go to bed at 3:00 am. Today, the dog thought he wanted to go out and so I found myself drinking hot chocolate and watching T.V. at 4:00. But something stirred me to stay up.

I turned on the T.V. and found my way to Anderson Cooper, Wesley Autrey was moving through the audience on his way to accept an award . . . Who is Wesley Autrey? Instantly my curiosity made me sit through some ridiculously long commercials. And then I knew. He was a real hero . . . The real deal.

Nothing else matters, this man had acted for another human being. He never hesitated with so much to lose. What you might ask? His life, watching his daughters grow up. When the story first aired, I’m sure they said he was a homeless man, at least that’s what I thought . . . He works in construction, has two young daughters.

Mr. Autrey is the one that held down a man having a seizure as a subway train roared above them . . . You see, a stranger fell to the tracks and Wesley Autrey jumped and cover him with his body so he wouldn’t be killed. And he has received money, awards, recognition, etc. But none of that matters . . .

Heroes walk among us . . . To be very honest, I feel better knowing the likes of Wesley are all around us. They don’t care about race, religion, politics or how much money they’ll be paid, they just act . . .

Every little action can have huge repercussions. Maybe these heroes aren’t people at all, but Angels showing us the way . . . Are we listening?

We have to feel before we can make a difference. I’m pretty tired, not getting my usual six hours. But it snowed last night. So I’ll get the snow blower going, do my driveway and then I’ll probably walk up the hill and do the 85 year old neighbor’s, so the 75 year old one won’t have too . . . Such a small thing and yet . . .

But honestly, each of us does so many things for others and no one knows . . . It has nothing to do with credit and everything for those without hope, seeing that hope does exist. CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, the BBC, the CBC, you name it; they all harp at us everyday about what’s wrong with this world . . . Our children need to know there’s hope. They need to know the world is a beautiful place with beautiful people. They need to want to live life again . . . Dreams are yours to share. Dan

Hi! Dan. I used this line the other day in one of my posts and having read this post I think the two have something in common.

"Knowing full well that this world is not the perfect place we would like it to be and that bad news sells" its great to hear stories such as yours and of unlikely heroes such as Wesley.

Our children, plus ourselves, get bombarded by bad news on TV etc all the time. I know they have to tell us what's going on but it's about time there was an extra channel to switch to that only included the good things in life.

Regards
Peter
